On this page we identify some key "variables" to consider when choosing health and medical treatment abroad.
For many people wishing to identify a service provider, the following are usually of paramount importance:
The quality and degree of medical excellence of the service provider.
The promptness with which treatment can be arranged. (It is typically a distinguishing feature of private overseas health providers that they can meet your needs immediately or with very little notice.)
The costs involved.
The costs themselves can comprise:
The costs of the medical/health treatment itself.
Other “in-country” costs such as accommodation, subsistence, airport transfers etc. (Always check carefully whether any quoted packages are inclusive or exclusive of such costs.)
The costs of travel to and from the country in question.
Last, but not necessarily least, when undertaking health tourism:
Which destination appeals from a holiday/recuperation perspective?
As a basic strategy, if you know the kind of treatment or service you are looking for: we suggest that you should try to identify and approach at least three service providers. Receive quotations, and then review the information received against the key variables identified above. Depending on the weight you yourself attach to each of these key variables, a clear "first choice" should emerge.
We suggest that you either browse by country using the navigation bar on our home page; or, should you prefer, search by treament type using our treatment reference lists, which can be found here.
